While realizing it is difficult to attract quality talent, fault cannot be laid squarely at the door of unemployment payments.
Let's not forget businesses who knowingly took PPA loans (since forgiven) which weren't needed. Some who took the money (not fraudulently, I might add) used it non-PPA projects rather than its intended purpose. Isn't that kind of the same thing?
Yes, some workers, especially at entry level, are rejecting spaces where they have felt unsafe, harassed, overwhelmed, disrespected and unvalued. The harrowing stories of often-times frontline workers are hard to listen to.
Yes, in the short term, unemployment benefits in some areas are allowing for respite - a chance to step back and reevaluate.
That being said, business must #DoBetter to attract, engage and retain a quality workforce, on equitable terms.
If you're really serious about the cream of the crop, it starts with ensuring the culture of your organization, from top to bottom, is an inclusive, dynamic and diverse environment where people easily gravitate and feel supported #change .
